Export promotion becomes a top priority at the BMLEH

With its export strategy announced today, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Regional Identity (BMLEH) is sending a pioneering signal to the agricultural and food industry to support the export sector. "The change of direction announced in the coalition agreement in favour of export support for the sector to increase the competitiveness and resilience of agricultural exporters is now taking the desired shape. Federal Minister Rainer is thus sending the desired clear signal to the sector. The Federal Minister is delivering," said Jan-Bernd Stärk, spokesperson for GEFA e.V., Head of Export Sales Third Country, Westfleisch SCE mbH, following today's press conference at the BMLEH.

BMLEH implements new form of business orientation

GEFA very much welcomes the fact that Federal Minister Rainer is making export promotion a top priority. This will give export promotion activities new vigour and send the desired signal to the industry.

The BMLEH's changed, proactive economic orientation runs like a red thread through all the measures presented. Not only are new strategic priorities being set, they are clearly being implemented with consistent seriousness across all departments and divisions of the organisation. Numerous new measures were presented and some of the previous activities were completely reorganised.

BMLEH sets the right priorities for export support

The announced acceleration of market access procedures, the stronger business orientation of the EL officers and the appointment of a new Chief Veterinary Officer were also welcomed. The exporters affiliated to GEFA hope that this will lead to a greater emphasis and acceleration of activities relating to market access procedures. Other key aspects include the expansion of the foreign trade fair programme and the significant reduction of bureaucracy in connection with market access and export activities.

GEFA Exportservice GmbH carries out: Business Trip USA (West Coast), 9.-13. March 2026, Food in general

On behalf of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Regional Identity, GEFA Exportservice GmbH organised this business trip in close cooperation with CMA Global Partners and Food - Made in Germany e. V.

In 2024, the USA imported agricultural and food products worth around 2.5 billion euros from Germany. This German export volume of approximately 761.6 thousand tonnes remained largely stable between 2020 and 2024. Even though the current customs situation poses challenges, the USA remains one of the most attractive foreign markets for German food products. California is considered the strongest state in economic terms and a trendsetter for nutrition, sustainability and innovation. The planned business trip is intended to provide German exporters with the necessary tools for successful market development in the USA and insights into the specifics of the Californian food market. It will take place in the week after the leading trade fair Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim and will allow participants to visit the fair individually in advance to pick up on current industry trends.

German Sweets e.V., GEFA Exportservice GmbH and WTSH - Wirtschaftsförderung und Technologietransfer Schleswig-Holstein GmbH (Kiel) GmbH are jointly organising the 11th German joint participation at the world's leading trade fair for food ingredients. The stand concept, which has been in use since 2011 with updates, guarantees a high recognition value.

GEFA agricultural exporters welcome BMLEH's committed foreign trade policy

At yesterday's GEFA parliamentary evening, the Chairman of the Bundestag Committee on Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs, Hermann Färber, Member of the Bundestag, and the Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs, Silvia Breher, Member of the Bundestag, as well as GEFA's industry representatives, spoke out in favor of committed export support for the sector.

BMLEH and GEFA in ambassadorial dialogue for liberalised trade in goods

On the occasion of the joint dialogue between the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Regional Identity (BMLEH) and the export industry represented by the German Export Association for Food and Agriproducts GEFA e.V. (GEFA) with more than 70 embassy representatives from Berlin's foreign embassies in the International Club of the Federal Foreign Office, Federal Minister Rainer said: "Our agricultural and food industry is far more than just an economic sector - it secures livelihoods on farms and in the food trade, keeps rural areas alive and thus creates prospects locally. Today, every third euro in the food industry is earned abroad, in agriculture it is every fourth. That is why we will market our high-quality products better through an export strategy, as agreed in the coalition agreement. The more diverse the export opportunities and the broader the importers are positioned, the more resilient the value chain as a whole will be - and the more robust our businesses will be."
