German Agricultural exports reach new level high

GEFA is forecasting German exports of agricultural products and foodstuffs as well as agricultural engineering at 79.5 billion euros for 2019. This is expected to be significantly higher than the previous year's level (+2.1%). Despite this positive development, further energetic political efforts are needed to open up export markets, says Bernd Wirtz, GEFA spokesman and managing director of Vion Food Group. Especially with regard to Asia, we need new initiatives to achieve gradual market openings for our exporters.

Exports by exporters for January to October 2019 (these and other figures excluding agricultural machinery, source: AMI) will reach €60.7 billion, up 1.4% on the same period last year. Exports to the EU (46.6 bn euro) in the same period were 0.6% down on the same period of the previous year. On the other hand, exports to third countries rose significantly, by 8.5% to 14.2 billion euros. These positive developments are mainly due to strong increases in exports to Asia (+11.7%) and Africa (+16.6%). Particularly noteworthy here are the 44.5% increase in value of exports to China. Within one year, the country has thus catapulted itself to 10th place among our TOP export nations and to first place among the leading third country nations.
